Getting people to use mobile phones? TEST POST

Welcome to Rubbish.

Wednesday 13 March 2002, Sydney, Australia, 1pm.

Australia's telephone network provider Telstra has been moving public telephones (street call-boxes) to new locations.

Why?

Answer is, it encourages people to use mobile phones which are MUCH more profitable for the carrier.

Asked why new phones get located right next to noisy streets, bus stops and in other unsuitable places, Telstra will probably blame city planners, councils and mayors.

Rubbish Bin invites brave Sydney-siders to try telephoning from any of the telephones located on busy George Street. Even the design of the new advertising stands which house the phones seems ideal to focus bus gear-box grind and acceleration roar into callers' ears.

Please respond Telstra. Rubbish Bin would LOVE to hear from you.
